Strengthening soft skills in a changing industry

In an industry that’s always evolving, Beauce Atlas knows that adapting isn’t just about technology—it’s about people. As a leader in steel structure fabrication, the company identified a critical need to strengthen managers’ interpersonal skills. The goal? To improve collaboration internally and embrace a more innovative, adaptable approach across projects.

Key objectives

  • Build a strong learning culture rooted in engagement and openness to change
  • Equip managers with the tools they need to fully step into their roles, following insights gathered through an employee feedback survey
  • Empower leaders to focus on serving and supporting their teams

Our approach

  • Custom learning portal on our online platform
  • Heatmap survey to identify priority needs
  • Tailored leadership development program

A custom development program was created, giving participants access to high-quality resources and tools on our online learning platform, along with in-person workshops. These workshops were designed to spark meaningful conversations and inspire participants to turn ideas into action.

The changes we truly embrace are the ones we can see ourselves in. That’s why we kicked things off with a heatmap survey to identify learners’ top development priorities. The heatmap is a unique, engaging consultation tool that helps gather input from employees, clients, or partners. It makes the invisible visible, supports better decision-making, builds engagement, and helps accelerate change.

The managers’ learning path

At Beauce Atlas, managers took part in a learning journey designed to put kindness and effective communication at the core of their leadership approach. Through access to focused resources and interactive workshops, they were able to:

  • Try out new ways of working together, including a co-development exercise
  • Strengthen their active listening skills
  • Help shape a new hybrid work policy

Participants shared that these workshops played a key role in helping them adopt new leadership practices and create a more inclusive, caring work environment.

The workshops gave participants a safe space to name and explore the challenges they were facing—often from very different perspectives. During the co-development session, we were truly blown away by their openness. The workshop made it possible to identify concrete, practical solutions to communication challenges—solutions managers can apply in their everyday work. For us, the whole experience was incredibly enriching. We now share a common vision of what kindness at work really means and understand what each manager can do to bring this skill into their day-to-day interactions with colleagues and within their own teams.

Training leaders: From theory to practice

Managers’ commitment to this program didn’t just help them build personal skills—it also laid the foundation for a continuous learning culture at Beauce Atlas.

The program was designed so that participants could, in turn, share their knowledge and experiences with others, further strengthening the company’s ability to evolve and adapt proactively.

Beauce Atlas’s initiative shows that developing soft skills—especially kindness and communication—is essential for navigating today’s work environment.
