Meet Sandrine, Marketing and communications manager

Each month, we introduce you to a Boostalab team member or a collaborator. This month, Sandrine, our marketing and communications manager, shares her story. Sandrine is not only the one who writes our newsletters, she is the one who knows how to take us further with each of her interventions. Yes, when Sandrine speaks, we listen, because she is always relevant!

Hello Sandrine! Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

My name is Sandrine and at Boostalab, I’m in charge of communications and marketing. As a true jack-of-all-trades, I love to try new things and I am constantly learning!

What were you doing before you came to Boostalab?

Most of my career has been in marketing and communication. I have worked for many different companies, from the largest to the smallest, and in many different sectors: energy, fashion, office supplies, senior housing, communication agency… I think I thrive on diversity and I like to show it in the most authentic way possible.

Speaking of diversity, just prior to coming to Boostalab, I had created my own women’s clothing brand to help short women feel more beautiful, stronger, and better about themselves. This roller coaster ride taught me a lot in a short period of time. I have developed many technical skills (I learned how to do fashion design and pattern making at 31!), but I have also improved my overall people skills.

And if I take anything from this adventure, it’s that you are your own best investment. Investing in your skills and your relationships with others always pays off. It’s what gets you back on your feet, no matter what the situation!

What drew you to Boostalab?

So many things! I love the idea of making the world better than it was. This has definitely been a common thread throughout my life. Boostalab is no exception. There is a real desire in the team to transform organizations to make them more human and efficient and this is felt on a daily basis, in each of the actions carried out.

But what really convinced me were the people at Boostalab. We often say that we are the sum of the 5 people we work with the most. And I can tell you that being in this organization definitely raises my average because each person on the team is a source of inspiration in their own right.

Another point: we really have a lot of fun. I was told, when I arrived, that one of the criteria for joining the team is the ability to have fun together. If the final destination is important, the journey to get there is just as important.

What’s a Boostalab practice that you like?

Before each of our meetings, we have an informal check-in. This is an opportunity for us to share our emotions of the day, our challenges of the day, to ask for help, or to laugh!

What’s the Boostalab value that resonates with you the most and why?

Of our three values, growth is the one that most resembles me. In everyday life, I am constantly striving to be the best version of myself. I like to feel that I am accomplishing things and that I am progressing.

And it is extremely satisfying and motivating to be with people who have this same mindset.

Describe your superpower in a few words?

My superpower, you can see it written in my signature if you read my newsletters! It is to transform ideas into concrete actions to bring a positive impact on tomorrow’s world.

A little secret: at Boostalab, we are idea machines. Some of them are a bit crazy, but very funny or interesting. We’ll probably share them with you one day.

Between you and me, I’m not someone who likes to stay in theory and status quo for long. So things get moving fast with me!

What’s your favourite breakfast?

In the past, I was always the type to skip breakfast, preferring to get on with the day’s tasks quickly. However, with the pandemic, I have learned to appreciate this meal and it has even become a regular part of my day. It helps me start the day in a good mood and with the energy to get things done.

It’s all about finding what makes you happy and the right recipes. As far as I’m concerned, the day always seems brighter with a cup of tea (with real tea leaves of course!). Then I adjust according to the weather and my mood. Hot and creamy oatmeal when it’s cold and toast or cereal when it’s warmer.

Finally, I have noticed that it is easier for me to integrate new habits when they are anchored to the ones I already have. So now I use that breakfast time to listen to new podcasts or read books!

What do you love the most about your work?

Again, I love the team we have. We try to implement the best practices we preach. We challenge each other regularly as a team and try to be better every day, while keeping our balance. I know I can count on my colleagues and that they are there for me when I need them. And they have shown that time and time again. As I said earlier, the journey, the “how you get there” is just as important as the destination.

And of course, I appreciate the entrepreneurial aspect that we have at Boostalab. You know me mostly through newsletters and communications, but I have the opportunity to do a multitude of other things. That’s also the charm of working in a human-sized organization: you have a real impact on the course of things and I love that!

What does your workspace look like?

Inspired by Marie-Eve and Pascale, I opted for a standing desk. Since I have it, I do part of my meetings standing up and I feel that it energizes my days. I also have a yoga mat next to me to breathe on and get a little exercise when the need arises. Definitely, having an ergonomic and well-laid-out office space is a game-changer.

A surprising anecdote about you that you haven’t revealed yet?

I come from the island of Réunion. I know people all over the world and have traveled a lot in my life. In fact, in 2018, I took a 4-month backpacking trip to Korea and Japan, an item on my bucket list that I finally got to check off.

If we want to follow what you do, where can we find you?

You can find me on LinkedIn and if you want to talk to me, just reply to the newsletter. I receive all your messages!
